On June 20, 1966, fifty-seven fabulous Sorors, with a vision, came together to form a new chapter, and thus became Zeta Tau Zeta Metropolitan Chicago Graduate Chapter. Zeta Tau Zeta was organized from two Chicago chapters, Beta Iota Zeta and Zeta Zeta. These two chapters came together for a merger that created the oldest graduate chapter in Illinois. During its existence, Zeta Tau Zeta has become one of the largest and strongest graduate chapters in Zetadom. Four (4) those Charter Members, affectionately known as the "Fabulous 57" are still actively and financially involved in the life of Zeta Tau Zeta today. Zeta Tau Zeta is a graduate chapter consisting of college educated women from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds. We are fiercely dedicated to the Sorority principles of Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood and Finer Womanhood. We actively serve our community through participation in a wide variety of programs and projects, including the March of Dimes, the Stork's Nest, Eldercare, youth programs, mentoring programs, feeding the homeless, school supply drives, Adopt-a-School projects, breast cancer awareness, Multiple Sclerosis and Lupus. what is STORK'S NEST? michelle robinson and melanee scott stork's nest chairs email: ztzstorknest@gmail.com A cooperative project of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, and the March of Dimes Foundation for more than 40 years, Stork’s Nest aims to increase the number of women receiving early and regular prenatal care in an effort to prevent cases of low birthweight, premature births and infant deaths. The first Stork’s Nest was launched in 1971 by the Epsilon Zeta Chapter of Atlanta, Georgia. It was one of many educational and service projects of Better Infant Births (BIB), a highly successful program sponsored by the Fulton-Dekalb-Clayton Chapter of the March of Dimes. The program was so successful that Zeta adopted Stork’s Nest in 1972 as its national project. The first Nest to open after it was adopted as Zeta’s national project was by the Lambda Zeta Chapter in Houston, Texas. Stork’s Nest is a jointly owned trademark of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, and March of Dimes Foundation, and can only be implemented by these two organizations. The program is designed to promote prenatal care participation and encourage healthy behaviors during pregnancy through two components—incentives and education. Participants enroll in our interactive self-paced prenatal education course and in return, the clients earn incentives such as maternity or baby care items through a variety of positive, health-promoting activities. The early 1920s were marked by racial unrest and social awakening—the Ku Klux Klan was resurgent, while the Harlem Renaissance blossomed as a groundbreaking movement celebrating the artistic and intellectual brilliance of Black America. That same year, the Volstead Act signaled the onset of Prohibition, and Tennessee’s ratification of the 19th Amendment secured women’s long-fought right to vote. As the decade unfolded, the nation would confront one of its greatest trials—the Great Depression. Amid these shifting tides, five courageous women—Arizona Cleaver, Myrtle Tyler, Viola Tyler, Fannie Pettie, and Pearl Neal—dared to dream of an organization that would rise above the conventions of the day. They envisioned a sisterhood rooted not in social privilege but in service, scholarship, sisterly love, and finer womanhood. Their mission was clear: to elevate the minds and spirits of women, to awaken social consciousness, and to confront the injustices and inequities that afflicted both their race and humanity at large. From this bold vision, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated emerged—not merely as another Greek-letter organization, but as a movement for progress, integrity, and purposeful action. Our Five Pearls Arizona Cleaver Stemons Founder Arizona Cleaver served as the first president of the Alpha Chapter and became the first National President of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. A pioneer in social work, she pursued both graduate and postgraduate studies in the field and played a pivotal role in expanding the organization’s reach by chartering numerous undergraduate and graduate chapters across the United States. Her visionary leadership laid the foundation for Zeta’s enduring legacy of service and scholarship. Myrtle Tyler Faithful Founder Myrtle Tyler Faithful, the second National President of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and sister to Founder Viola Tyler, devoted her career to education as a mathematics and English teacher. A dedicated member of Alpha Zeta Chapter in Baltimore, Maryland, she embodied the spirit of sisterhood and leadership that continues to define Zeta women today. Viola Tyler Goings Founder Viola Tyler Goings earned her teaching degree with a major in mathematics from Howard University. She dedicated her life to education, teaching in Ohio’s public schools for many years. Deeply committed to community engagement, she exemplified Zeta’s principles of service and civic responsibility. Fannie Pettie Watts Founder Fannie Pettie Watts graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education and went on to teach at the junior and senior high school levels in Savannah, Georgia. She was instrumental in establishing two additional Zeta chapters and remained an active member of Delta Alpha Zeta Chapter, advancing Zeta’s mission through leadership and mentorship. Pearl Anna Neal A gifted musician and scholar, Founder Pearl Anna Neal graduated from Howard University’s Conservatory of Music before continuing her education at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music. In 1938, she became the first Black woman in New York to earn a master’s degree in music from Columbia University. An accomplished educator, she taught music in North Carolina’s public schools and later served as Director of Music for senior majors at Teachers College in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Zeta Tau Zeta Scholarships In collaboration with the Zeta Tau Zeta White Rose Foundation, 501c3 the Zeta Tau Zeta Chapter promotes academic achievement and educational access by awarding scholarships to deserving students. Through ongoing fundraising and philanthropic efforts, the chapter continues to invest in the educational success of students within the communities we serve, reflecting our enduring commitment to Scholarship, a founding principle of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. 2026 Zeta Tau Zeta White Rose Foundation Scholarship Award Application is open via the White Rose Foundation Scholarship Application link. Zeta of the Year The Zeta of the Year award recognizes a member of Zeta Tau Zeta Chapter who has demonstrated exceptional dedication, leadership, and service to the chapter and the community during the year. This honor is presented as part of our Finer Womanhood Celebration to a member whose commitment to Scholarship, Service, Sisterhood, and Finer Womanhood exemplifies the ideals of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated.
