Chapter History
Zeta Tau Zeta Chapter was chartered on June
20, 1966 as the Chicago Metropolitan Graduate Chapter. The chapter was
formed as the result of 57 Sorors who wanted to unify the Chicagoland
area. These Sorors were members of Beta Iota Zeta and Zeta Zeta Chapters.
Today, Zeta Tau Zeta Chapter is one of the largest graduate chapters in
the State of Illinois and the Great Lakes Region. Today our chapter has 92
active members.
Annually, Zeta Tau Zeta presents four or
five scholarships during the sorority’s National observance of Finer
Womanhood. Zeta Tau Zeta sponsors a Stork’s Nest program for pregnant teen
mothers, and their partners. This program is done in conjunction with the
March of Dimes, a National partner of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Other
National initiatives we support are the American Cancer Society and the
National Educational Foundation of our Sorority. Our chapter actively
supports the Sorority’s latest National program Z-HOPE (Zetas Helping
Other People Excel through Mind, Body and Spirit). We enthusiastically
take the lessons of Z-HOPE to men, women and youth across the city and in
the city’s youth penal system.
Throughout the years Zeta Tau Zeta has
supported many community organizations, such as the Chicago Urban League’s
annual, Feed the homeless programs, Ronald McDonald House, Family Rescue
Domestic Violence Shelter and St. James AME Church’s feeding the hungry
under Lower Wacker Drive program. We take our principles seriously and are
constantly looking for organizations where we can bring the message of
Finer Womanhood, Service, Scholarship and Sisterly Love.
